Animal Sentience (Members Statement)

Addressing Parliament in a Members Statement on 13th August 2025, Amanda outlined the overwhelming scientific evidence that animals are sentient beings — capable of experiencing joy, fear, grief, and affection.

She highlighted examples from pigs, parrots, and octopus to show that both vertebrates and invertebrates share emotional and cognitive complexity.

Amanda called for the recognition of animal sentience to be more than academic: it must shape how we treat animals in farming, research, entertainment, and as companions. Recognising sentience is not just ethical — it is a moral obligation.
