Amanda Dorn raises kangaroo welfare concerns

In this parliamentary speech, Animal Justice Party MP Amanda Dorn raises urgent concerns about the treatment of a local mob of western grey kangaroos impacted by ongoing development works.

Amanda outlines reports from residents and wildlife carers that frightened kangaroos are showing signs of extreme stress as habitat destruction and construction activity continue around them. The speech also questions the role of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), including concerns that relocation options may have been dismissed before genuine consideration occurred.

Amanda highlights that the City of Joondalup had required consideration of relocation options through planning conditions, yet the kangaroos remain trapped amid escalating works.

The speech calls for urgent intervention to protect the animals, greater transparency around decision-making processes, and meaningful action to safely relocate the kangaroos before further suffering occurs.
