Petition to Update the Animal Welfare Act

On 16 September 2025, Amanda was proud to present an e-petition to Parliament on behalf of the community.

The petition contained over 4,000 signatures of Western Australians, urging the government to prioritise passage of the WA Animal Welfare Bill. The current Animal Welfare Act 2002 is outdated, and does not adequately protect companion, farmed, or native animals from cruelty. An independent review and 18 months of consultations in 2021 highlighted the need for modernised laws, yet progress has stalled.

Amanda has spent her time in Parliament highlighting both the widespread public support and the clear gaps in protections under the existing Act. She reinforced that passing the WA Animal Welfare Bill is not just a legal necessity, but a reflection of community values and ethical responsibility. Amanda will continue to press this issue in Parliament, advocating for laws that are fit for purpose and provide real consequences for cruelty—ensuring that animals in WA are treated with the care and protection they deserve.
