Banning Sow Stalls in the Pork Industry

On 22 May 2025, Amanda raised serious concerns in Parliament about the continued use of sow stalls in Western Australia.

Sow stalls are restrictive metal crates that confine pregnant pigs so tightly that they can’t move, nuzzle their piglets, or even turn around.

Amanda questioned the Minister for Agriculture and Food on whether the pork industry’s voluntary commitment to phase out sow stalls is being properly monitored, how many producers in WA are still using them, and whether farrowing crates remain common practice.

Amanda’s questions called for transparency around industry practices and greater accountability when it comes to animal welfare.
